By adding a 1x2 on edge, running lengthwise, and centered under the 2x10, this entire assembly can be clamped securely into a Workmate for additional stability and versatility.

It seems that the hawk we went up against was migratory, and just passing through. He or she left after a few days. It was also probably starving, that's why it was so bold in attacking the coop.

I wouldn't like to kill a beautiful bird like that, but if we ever had one that hung around, I wouldn't hesitate.

How long have you been having the problem, and what part of the country are you in? Maybe your hawk is also a migrant.

Hey, did that work out for you? I've got a serious hawk problem and I'm ready to shoot to kill. Today was a nightmare! My tiny flock up against the nastiest, most persistent hawk I've ever known.

Thank you for the posting this! We just moved to the country and so excited to see your chicken coop since we were having a hard time trying to figure out how to build Joel Salatin's original coop.

Can't wait to get started!
Blessings

The simplicity of this press is refreshing to see. I've been reviewing so many others as I look for just the right one to buy or make.

The clamp is attached using wood glue. That stuff is tough! Just make sure you clamp it down firmly until it is dry

My guess would be that any serious recoil would eventually break it, simply because there is nowhere for the recoil to go. Sight-in vices usually have some sort of spring to absorb the recoil. However, I don't know what "serious recoil" would be.

This is a very nice vise. I was searching the web for plans for a gun vise because I would like to make one too. I want mine, not just for cleaning, but I want to use it to sight my gun in as well. Do u think that these plans would work for that? Would it withstand that kind of stress? I know that I would probably have you use screws as well as wood glue.
Thanks and again, great job

PVC would be a good alternative... though, I'm planning on building another one and am considering using the plastic/pvc lattice from lowe's. They only come in 8-ft lengths but they could easily be overlapped and tied together and used just like the steel panels.

Just a thought.

good luck and happy farming!

You're welcome Adam and I'm glad you found the instructions useful.

I'm really surprised prices have gone up that much. We built these in 2006, and the panels were sub $20. But then, I remember when prices on copper pipe rose from $10 for 4' to $80 for 4' in just a few years, so stranger stuff has happened.

Note: when I build another of these, I will probably attempt to make the frame out of PVC, to make it lighter, but as the cages are still going strong for me, this probably won't be for another few years.

Great plans! I built this last weekend over the course of two days. One note, though... It cost upwards of $250.00! The panels alone are nearly $40.00 each at tractor supply. Now I'm not complaining; just wanting to update costs.

In my opinion, it is still well worth the cost.

Home made jerky is always better than the store bought stuff. Less salt and no added sugars. Best
